CELESTONE (Betamethasone) POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Effective medicine may cause “side effects” in some people. New symptoms may be caused by the medicine, the original disorder, or a new illness that may develop. Most

people experience few or no side effects, and those that.do happen tend to disappear in time after you stop using the medicine or when your body adjusts to it.
In usual dosages, taken over a short period of time, thqre are usually no harmful side effects due to taking Celestone. YOUR ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING
This medicine should not cause any change in your degree of mental alertness or in the efficiency of your reflexes, so the medicine itself should not cause you to change your usual daily activities.

STORAGE
Keep this medicine in a tightly closed container in a dry, cool place away from heat or direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Don’t use the bathroom cabinet because humidity is high there. If you store medicine in the refrigerator, do not let it freeze. Don’t save left-over medicine to “use later.” Discard it on the expiration date shown on the container, but do so in a way that will protect children or pets—flush down the toilet, for example.

REFILLS
All refills must be ordered by your doctor, either in the first prescription or later. Only the pharmacy that originally filled this prescription can refill it. If you go elsewhere, you must have a new prescription. Call the pharmacist and order your refill by number; it can be ready when you go to pick it up. Use one pharmacy for the whole family if you can. That way a complete record of all your drugs can be kept and the pharmacist can communicate effectively with your doctor.

OVERDQSAGE & TREATMENT
It is very unlikely that this particular medication would be threatening to your life. CELESTONE (Betamethasone)

INSTRUCTIONS
Celestone is the trade name of Beta-methasone, a steroid hormone. Its action is that of all steroids used: (1) to replace a hormone deficiency or (2) to treat inflammations, allergies, collagen disorders, and a few other human problems.
Follow the instructions on the prescription exactly. Do not take a larger or smaller dose of the medicine than the prescription tells you to. All medicines in this class may irritate an empty stomach. Therefore, please take this medicine immediately before, with, or after meals. Or you may take it with food or milk between meals.
If you are scheduled to be on Celestone for a long time, you may need a special diet and an antacid prescription. If you take steroids only once a day or every other day, it is important to take the tablet or syrup in the morning to minimize the chance of reactions.
Take all the medicine prescribed, even if you feel much better before you have taken all of it. If you have an adverse reaction, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor.

PRECAUTIONS
Using medicines together may sometimes cause unfavorable reactions. So tell your doctor about any medicine you are taking now (including drugs you buy without prescription).
If you have had glaucoma, cataracts, tuberculosis, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, diverticulitis, diabetes or some other serious medical problem, or if you are pregnant or think you might be preg-nent, tell your doctor before you start taking Celestone. You should avoid smallpox vaccinations or other immunization procedures except under special circumstances.
If you should develop a serious infection, suffer an injury or need surgery while you are taking Celestone, or anytime within a year after taking Celestone, be sure to inform your doctor. These conditions may call for a change in your dosage or the need to begin taking Celestone or a similar medicine again. If you take a steroid for more than one week and notice excessive weight gain, increasing acne, fever, abdominal pain, eye infections or increasing amounts of urine, notify your doctor without delay.

CAFFEINE

INSTRUCTIONS
Caffeine is an important drug found in coffee, tea, cocoa, cola drinks and in many medicines such as: No-Doz, Buff-A, Cafergot, Duadacine, Empirin, Cope, Pre-Mens, Emprazil, Excedrin, Fiorinal, Sinarest, Triaminicin, Midol, Anacin, Vanquish, Bromo-Seltzer, and Easy-Mens. People drink beverages with caffeine or take medicines with caffeine for its stimulant effect and (mixed with other chemicals) for its effect on blood vessels to prevent or treat vascular headaches. Caffeine can help relieve some symptoms but should not be expected to cure any disorder.
PRECAUTIONS
Any drug, including Caffeine, might possibly have reactions with other drugs. Therefore, make sure you tell your doctor about any medicine you are taking now (including drugs you buy without prescriptions). If you should drink a lot of coffee, tea, or cola, and take a drug with caffeine in it, you may absorb a harmful amount of caffeine. If you have disturbances of heart rhythm, a history of ulcers in the stomach or duodenum, if you have low blood sugar, or epilepsy, you should not take medicines with caffeine or drink beverages with caffeine until you discuss this matter with your doctor. You should not exceed 250 mg. of caffeine at any one time or 500 mg. per 24 hours. If you are taking a medicine that contains caffeine, find out how much caffeine it contains. The caffeine content of some familiar beverages are approximately: Coffee: 80-150 mg. in 8 oz. cup; Decaffeinated Cof’ee: 3-5 mg. in 8 oz. cup; Full-bodied tea: 60-75 mg. in 8 oz. cup; Cola: 36 mg. in 6 oz.; Diet Cola: 18 mg. in 6 oz. Caffeine added to other stimulants (such as

amphetamines) may cause excessive nervousness. Sudden withdrawal of caffeine after you have taken considerable quantities in any form fora long while can produce a headache.

It is possible that caffeine may cause nervousness, sleeplessness, increased urine output, headache, irritability, altered thinking, nausea, heartburn, palpitations, indigestion, abdominal pain and other disorders. If you should develop any of these symptoms or think that caffeine is bothering you in some other way, stop taking it and notify your doctor. He may suggest a dosage change or that you discontinue using caffeine.

CALCIDRINE SYRUP (Calcium iodide, codeine,ephedrine HCI, alcohol)

INSTRUCTIONS
Calcidrine is the trade name of a mixture of the ingredients listed above. It is used for the treatment of coughing. It is intended to be used as an aid to reduce troublesome symptoms; it is not expected to cure any disorder.
Follow instructions on the prescription exactly. Do not take a larger or smaller dose of the medicine than the prescription tells you to.
Discomfort from your cough may be decreased if you increase the fluids you drink and decrease the irritants in the air you breathe —especially tobacco smoke. Limiting the amount you talk, sing or laugh also may help to make coughing less troublesome.
Shake well before taking.
In many cases it will not be necessary or desirable for you to take all of this medicine. Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly. If the symptoms for which the medicine was prescribed improve, or if you have any adverse reactions that you think may be caused by the medicine, stop taking it and contact your doctor for further instructions.

Get additional medical advice if you have a fever of over 100.0 degrees orally or if your cough does not improve within 3 days. Do not give to infants unless specifically directed to by your doctor. Do not give any of this medicine to anyone else. Do not drink alcohol or use sedatives while you are taking Calcidrine without telling your doctor. If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, tell your doctor before you start taking Calcidrine. The iodide in this medicine may affect any blood tests made to checkyourthyroid function within the next 3-6 months.

Some patients have reported that Calcidrine seemed to cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, lightheadedness, insomnia, visual blurring,

hallucinations or skin rash. If you should develop any of these symptoms to an uncomfortable degree or think that the medicine is bothering you in some other way, stop taking it temporarily and notify your doctor. He may decide to change your dosage schedule or discontinue the medicine.

YOUR ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING
Until you experience how this medicine affects you, don’t drive a car or other vehicle, don’t work around dangerous machinery, don’t climb ladders, and don’t work in high places. Especially follow these restrictions if you also drink any beverage with alcohol, or take any other medicine that might affect your alertness or reflexes, such as tranquilizers, sedatives, anti-histamines, medicine for pain, and others.

(b) No heart beat: Use cardiac massage if you know
how; hit the breast-bone hard with your fist.
(c) Don’t try to make him vomit, (d) It you can’t get
help, take the patient to the nearest qualified
Emergency facility.
The patient is alert: (a) Give milk (undiluted evaporated milk is best), (b) Try to induce vomiting with Syrup of Ipecac* if available; otherwise push your finger far back in his throat. Try to save the vomit for tests. Next, give Activated Charcoal.” (c) If no professional help can be found, don’t wait. Take the patient to the nearest Emergency facility.

CAFERGOT (Ergotamine tart rate, caffeine)

INSTRUCTIONS
Cafergot is the trade name t>f a mixttire of Ergotamine tart rate and caffeine. It is used to prevent or treat headache. It is intended to be used as an aid to reduce troublesome symptoms; it is not expected to cure any disorder. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Follow instructions on the prescription exactly. Do not take a larger or smaller dose of the medicine than the prescription tells you to. If the medicine prescribed is a suppository, it is to be inserted gently into the rectum. For best results, dosage should be started at the first sign of an attack.
Adults: Two tablets at start of attack; one additional tablet every half hour if needed for full relief (maximum: 6 tablets per attack, 10 per week). Rectaliy: One suppository at start of attack; second suppository after one hour if needed for full relief (maximum: 2 suppositories per attack, 5 per week).
In many cases it will not be necessary or desirable for you to take all of this medicine. Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly. If the symptoms for which the medicine was prescribed improve, or if you have any adverse reactions that you think may be caused by the medicine, stop taking it and contact your doctor for further instructions.
