INSTRUCTIONS
Etrafon is a trade name of a mixture of perphenazine and amitriptyline. It is used for the treatment of anxiety and depression. It is intended as an aid to reduce troublesome symptoms; it is not expected to cure any disorder.
All antidepressant medicines take at least three weeks to become effective, and you must be patient while awaiting improvement. If you are not seriously depressed and take an antidepressant, it has a very good chance of causing you to become unhappy and unpleasant.
Follow the instructions on1 the prescription exactly. Do not take a larger or smaller dose of the medicine than the prescription tells you to. Do not take it if you are allergic to any drug of the pheno-thiazine group (e.g., Chlorpromazine, Phenergan, Thorazine).
Take all the medicine prescribed, even if you feel much belter before you have taken all of it. If you have an adverse reaction, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor.
PRECAUTIONS
Using medicines together may sometimes cause unfavorable reactions. So tell your doctor about any medicine you are taking now (including drugs you buy with out prescription).
You should not take alcohol, high blood pressure medicines (especially guanethidine), barbiturates, narcotics or other pain killers, or antihistamines, thyroid medicines, Ritalin, or monamine oxidase inhibiting drugs while you are taking Etrafon,
Do not give any of this medicine to anyone else. If you have heart trouble or prostate trouble, or if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, tell your doctor before you start taking Etrafon.
Medicines of this group can cause changes in the breasts of men, changes in the blood, skin rashes, increased sensitivity to sunlight, increased pigmentation of the skin, visual difficulties, changes in liver function, increased blood cholesterol levels and sometimes a drop in blood pressure.
